Our House in Progress
When we bought our house last summer (2007), we knew we would have a long road ahead of us. We planned to take it slow and remodel one room at a time. We began in the kitchen, hoping to get the hardest room out of the way first. Well, here we are almost one year later, and the kitchen still isn’t complete. Over this past year, we have put in granite tile countertops, ceramic tile backsplash, and new sink and fixtures. We also replaced all the moulding, added recessed and pendant lighting, and painted the walls and trim. We antiqued the existing cabinets and changed all the hardware. The short list of things left to do are the countertop nosing, toe kick boards, paint/antique the crown moulding on the cabinets, build two shelves for an empty spot on the wall next to the cabinets, and replace the missing/broken cabinet doors (which is why you will see some missing in the pictures). I will show some before pictures and then some current ones, with the completed ones to be posted in the hopefully near future!!!
Wasn’t it a beauty?
Working…
Okay…so here it is…the words I have been wanting to type for a long time…THE KITCHEN IS FINISHED! Well, excpet for small decorating touches, etc. Here are some pictures I took today, March 3rd, 2009. They don’t look extremely different from the ones directly above, but if you look closely, they are different. No unfinished countertop nosing, no missing cabinet doors (except for the ones over the micorwave, which I decided to leave open), the trim is all painted, and we added some open shelving. Anyway, it feels so nice to have it done. I think a year and a half was waaaay too long!

I painted my bar stools brown and then sanded some spots down to the wood to make them look aged…at least until I can get some nicer ones.

I want to put something in front of the sink (you know where you usually see a fake drawer front?)…I tried some wooden scroll appliques, but haven’t found what I like in the right scale. I may end up doing an iron piece.

Anyone want to buy a white KithenAid stand mixer, or trade for a stainless one???…LOL. My white one no longer matches….it sticks out like a sore thumb!

Isn’t that a good-looking bowl of fruit?

I am so happy for ya’ll – I know what a tedious job it has been with Derek working weird hours and your Shannon’s Dad having to actually make some of the doors – but the results are fantastic – hey Shannon when I get back into a house would you consider decorating it – love ya’ll and again great work it looks great – love the clean “airy” feeling it gives you
